Cooking from Scratch

Amidst learning language, I (Carly) have been enjoying learning how to cook many new things from scratch and adjusting to working with different appliances, or a lack thereof.
Available food and appliances are a reflection of the differences in diet here. So many things that you take for granted in the west are not available on our island- yogurt, cheese, soup stock, fresh milk (occasionally available) and many more.
To feed our family well, remain healthy and progress in language study has required a lot of creativity and practice in the area of cooking and baking. Some things are not worth the time and effort to make. Meanwhile, I am learning to enjoy preparing bread, yogurt, granola, soup stock, and roasted chicken regularly with the help of my trusty box-oven.
